Stan

Stan (1965, Aix-en-Provence, France) is a contemporary self-taught artist based in Cambodia. At 19, he left his home town for  London (England) to pursue a career in the music industry, becoming a successful recording-mixing engineer.  After ending his music career, Stan resolved to give a try at painting to fulfill his creativity, starting  to project paint on a canvas in a Jackson Pollock’s way.

 

He takes his inspiration from great creators such as Hans Hartung and Jack  Whitten, while absorbing the colors and vibrations of his tropical environment. He creates abstract paintings, mainly with oil  on canvas or photographic paper and lacquer paint behind glass.

 

His technique consists of multi-layering oil paint with a squeegee (spatula), vertically and horizontally applied on the surface while the paint is still wet. The overlapping hues and  shapes create a visual depth of space, resulting in vibrant works full of texture and rhythm.
